Abstract
The development priorities of Papua New Guinea (PNG) include promoting renewable energy and making improvements to transport infrastructure, health services, water and other urban infrastructure, and public sector management. The Government of PNG has also placed emphasis on environmental sustainability, private sector development, gender equity, and knowledge management.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has been working with PNG since 1971 and is the country’s largest multilateral development partner. The active ADB portfolio in PNG totals $1.2 billion, comprising 23 loans (including a loan from another source), 10 grants from the Asian Development Fund and other sources, 6 technical assistance projects, and 2 loans and equity operations in the private sector.
