Digital Colombia: Maximizing the global internet and data for sustainable and inclusive growth

Abstract

As this report will show, the policies needed to build a digital Colombia will help address many of these key economic and social challenges, while developing the capacity for sustainable growth in a 21st century global economy. The paper is structured as follow. The introduction provides an overview of Colombia’s economy and analyzes how the internet and data is affecting economic growth. Section 1 looks at Colombia’s engagement in international trade, how the internet and data are transforming international trade and analyzes the opportunities for Colombian business to expand their participation in international trade. Sections 2-7 analyze the domestic challenges and opportunities for building a digital Colombia. Section 8 concludes with policy recommendations.
