Beyond the Asian Turmoil: Capital Account Crisis and Family-Based Corporate Governance
Asian Development Bank Institute |
What went right with the pre-crisis economic systems in Southeast Asia, which had enjoyed miraculous growth over the preceding few decades? When the unpredicted Asian crisis suddenly broke out, analytical attention shifted overwhelmingly to consider what went wrong with those same economic systems. This overall problem was taken up at two levels in the main presentations at this seminar: that of capital account crises, and that of corporate governance among the predominantly family-controlled business groups typical of the crisis-affected economies in East Asia.
