Asian Development Bank and Papua New Guinea: Fact Sheet
Asian Development Bank | July 2006
Abstract
Updated yearly, this ADB Fact Sheet provides social and economic indicators on Papua New Guinea as well as concise information on ADB's operations in the country and contact information. Papua New Guinea (PNG) is rich in natural resources, but faces significant constraints to development, including a challenging geography, extreme ethnic diversity and population dispersion, and poor social indicators to track a rapidly growing population. These challenges are exacerbated by a serious HIV/AIDS epidemic, failure to generate broad-based economic growth and job creation despite substantial income from natural resources, weak public services, and governance difficulties.
