Asian Development Bank and Kazakhstan: Fact Sheet
Asian Development Bank | June 2008
Abstract
Updated yearly, this ADB Fact Sheet provides social and economic indicators on Kazakhstan as well as concise information on ADB's operations in the country and contact information. Strong prices for oil, gas, and minerals; the rapid growth of domestic consumption; and a rebound in investment continued to propel Kazakhstan’s economy in 2007. However, these strengths also bring challenges, including the immediate need to control rising inflation and to improve the performance of the country’s banks in a challenging environment. Further out there is also a need to diversify the economy, push through structural reforms, enhance competitiveness, and ensure more equitable development. These measures, plus fiscal and monetary policy coordination, are necessary to ensure sustainable growth.
