Asian Development Bank and Azerbaijan: Fact Sheet

Asian Development Bank | April 2011
    Abstract
Updated yearly, this ADB Fact Sheet provides social and economic indicators on Azerbaijan as well as concise information on ADB's operations in the country and contact information.Azerbaijan has received $687.40 million in loan assistance since joining the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in 1999. ADB’s operations in Azerbaijan involve both the public and private sectors, and are undertaken in line with the government’s own development strategies. ADB shares the objectives and aspirations of the government to reduce poverty and promote sustainable and inclusive economic growth. ADB has significantly increased its involvement in the private sector to strengthen undercapitalized banks and to develop private infrastructure. Since private banks are a key source of small loans, especially for individual entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises, they are critical to the economy.
