Asian Development Bank and Papua New Guinea: Fact Sheet
Asian Development Bank | April 2012
Abstract
Updated yearly, this ADB Fact Sheet provides social and economic indicators on Papua New Guinea as well as concise information on ADB's operations in the country and contact information. In Papua New Guinea (PNG), the Asian Development Bank (ADB) partners with the government and other players to improve aid effectiveness. For example, ADB-supported projects use government procurement systems and processes and project implementation is progressively becoming an in-line function. ADB promotes investment and policy coordination across the transport, power, and rural health sectors, including cofinancing. ADB also partners with nonstate actors to deliver development results, including successful private sector partnerships in the delivery of rural health services and franchising shipping companies to expand their services to remote coastal communities. ADB will continue to participate in International Monetary Fund Article IV missions and to conduct debt sustainability analyses jointly with the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. ADB will collaborate further with the Australian Agency for International Development, the Japan International Cooperation Agency, and the Government of New Zealand in the health, finance, transport, and power sectors, and in private sector development.
