dc.description.abstract | Accurate, concise, and readable communication is essential to the work of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). If ADB’s language is unclear, verbose, or inconsistent, its message will be obscured and its operations undermined. This revised and expanded edition of the ADB Handbook of Style and Usage is the first update in 7 years. It includes many new sections and some revisions to ADB style, mainly to bring it closer to the major authorities on American English. A list of the main revisions in this edition can be found on e-Board (http://eboard.asiandevbank.org/docs_refs/index.php). The handbook will make the preparation of written material simpler for all ADB staff and consultants and significantly improve the quality of ADB documents and publications. The handbook is a joint publication of the Office of the Secretary (which is responsible for editing documents sent to the Board of Directors) and the Department of External Relations (which oversees the editing of ADB publications). The Handbook of Style and Usage is approved by Management. | |

Guides and Manuals
Guides and manuals are materials about procedures used by the Asian Development Bank to instruct, direct, and provide guidelines that have research value and may be useful for other organizations aiming to establish their own guidelines for similar processes. These include handbooks, guidelines, manuals, directories, tip sheets, tool kits, and other instructive materials. They are peer-reviewed within the originating office and approved by the department head. Guides and manuals are typically text-driven and are often low on images.
