Asian Development Bank and Palau: Fact Sheet
Asian Development Bank | April 2015
Abstract
An archipelagic state in the Northwest Pacific, the Republic of Palau’s geographic location, small markets, and tourism-based economy make it vulnerable to external economic shocks, the impacts of climate change, and extreme weather events. After joining the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in 2003, Palau was classified as an ADB developing member country in December 2005, and has received four loans totaling $44.8 million and five technical assistance projects totaling $3.3 million. Cumulative disbursements to Palau for lending and grants amounted to $16.7 million.
