Improving Agricultural Contracting Mechanisms
Asian Development Bank | July 2012
Abstract
This paper looks at the government’s assessments of policies and regulations in promoting contracting between agribusinesses and agricultural producers in Viet Nam.
Research was conducted by two study teams to look into a more sustainable and realistic approach to agricultural contracting that has the potential to be replicated in other suitable value chains.
One key finding is that when working with small farmers, the contract format should be kept as simple as possible.
Also, the success of contract farming shows that farmers prefer monitorable and measurable indicators for technical standards for contracted produce.
