The Center for International Relations and Strategic Studies (CIRSS) launched its newest publication, the CIRSS Commentaries, in the recently concluded Mangrove Forum on International Relations titled “A Regional Security Architecture for the Asia Pacific” on 17 June 2014.

The CIRSS Commentaries is a bi-weekly short publication by the research specialists of FSI which serves as a timely response and brief analysis of latest regional and global developments and issues that impact Philippine foreign policy. It also aims to contribute to a wider and deeper discussion of issues as they affect the Philippines and the region.

The first issue, “The New Principles and Guidelines on Arms Exports: A Sign of Change or a Sign of Continuity in Japan’s Security Policy?” by Valerie Jill I. Valero discusses how the evolution of Japanese defense and security policies could impact the Philippines and the region.

The second issue, “ASEAN—The Core of a Robust Security Architecture for the Asia Pacific?” by Mary Fides A. Quintos, explores how the organization can maintain as the driving force of security architecture in the region.
