Japan in 2016: Shifts in Domestic Politics amid Shifts in Regional Landscape

Valero, Valerie Anne Jill I. | January 2017
    Abstract
The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) won the elections in July in convincing fashion, effectively ensuring policies and initiatives es-poused by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will meet little to no resistance in the Diet. LDP managed to capture majority of the seats in both the House of Representatives and House of Councillors, an unprecedented achievement in Japanese electoral politics. With the Diet firmly behind him, Abe can be expected to carry on with his domestic and foreign initiatives and policies. His Proac-tive Contribution to Peace policy, for instance, can be expected to continue. He can also be expected to push for, if not explore, certain developments or changes, such as constitutional revision.

Examination of the Singapore Shift in Japan's Foreign Direct Investment in Services in ASEAN

Hamanaka, Shintaro (Asian Development Bank, 2011-03-15)
Asia is fast becoming the largest recipient of Japan's foreign direct investment (FDI). In the manufacturing sectors, however, the investment flows from Japan to ASEAN—with Thailand being the largest recipient—has been declining. In contrast, Japan’s FDI in the services ...

It attempts to answer two main questions: (i) Would these countries be better off shifting to either a basket peg or a floating regime following the PRC’s transition to a basket peg regime? (ii) How and when should these countries shift to ...
