Summary of Proceedings of Public Administration and Civil Service Management Capacity-Building Workshop

Asian Development Bank Institute | April 1999
    Abstract
In the changing world of today, the need for highly effective management of public sector institutions and programs has never been greater. The effective management of public sector institutions has been linked, in theory and practice, to sustained economic development and is a major vehicle through which to develop modern governance systems and principles. Governments, and public agencies around the world, in this context, are undergoing processes of renewal and reform that pose new challenges and opportunities to public sector management. These same challenges and opportunities demand new knowledge, skills and leadership abilities. The ADB Institute, as part of its capacity-building and training program, offered a new and intensive one-week workshop to introduce, and help prepare public sector managers, for the world of high performance management.
