Modes of Participation Experiences from RETA 5894: Capacity Building and Participation Activities II
Malvicini, Cindy F.; Sweetser, Anne T. | June 2003
Abstract
Effective development requires the early and substantive involvement of all stakeholders in the design of activities that will affect them. When the people involved feel that their participation is meaningful, the quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of development initiatives improve. Also, a consensus has emerged over the past decade or more that those who are affected by development initiatives have a right to participate in them. Thus, there is both pragmatic and moral justification for implementing participatory approaches in development programming.
