Abstract

Updated yearly, this ADB Fact Sheet provides social and economic indicators on Pakistan as well as concise information on ADB's operations in the country and contact information. Pakistan is committed to far-reaching governance and economic reforms and has made substantial economic progress over the last 5–6 years. Its macroeconomic fundamentals and financial condition have improved, allowing it to boost spending on programs that can reduce poverty. And among the major reforms, the Government has been devolving responsibility for basic services to local governments at the district and subdistrict levels, improving efficiency and accountability. Under its Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper, in place since December 2003, it aims to accelerate economic growth, improve governance, and invest in human capital.
