Updated yearly, this ADB Country Fact Sheet provides social and economic indicators on the Lao People's Democratic Republic as well as concise information on ADB's operations in the country and contact information. Poverty reduction remains to be the most urgent development challenge for the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR). As high rates of economic growth have effectively contributed to reducing income poverty, poverty incidence based on minimum food consumption declined to 32.7% in fiscal 2003 compared to 39.1% 5 years before.
