Asian Development Bank and Kiribati: Fact Sheet

Asian Development Bank | April 2009
    Abstract
Updated yearly, this ADB Fact Sheet provides social and economic indicators on Kiribati as well as concise information on ADB's operations in the country and contact information. Rapid population growth and urban migration have left Kiribati with overcrowded urban areas, with the most pressing development challenges social and environmental concerns, including the impacts of climate change, access to clean water and sanitation, and the spread of HIV/AIDS. Only a small percentage of the labor force participates in the formal economy in which the Government of Kiribati provides a large part of all wage employment in public service and stateowned enterprises. Formal jobs are concentrated in South Tarawa.
