Asian Development Bank and Solomon Islands: Fact Sheet

Asian Development Bank | April 2012
    Abstract
Updated yearly, this ADB Fact Sheet provides social and economic indicators on Samoa as well as concise information on ADB's operations in the country and contact information. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has partnered with the Government of Solomon Islands since 1973. To strengthen this partnership and facilitate coordination on the ground with other stakeholders, in 2008, ADB and the World Bank jointly established a Development Coordination Office in Honiara. In addition to the Ministry of Finance and Treasury, ADB works closely with the Ministry of Infrastructure Development for transport infrastructure; the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Employment for private sector development; and the Ministry of National Development Planning and Aid Coordination on the development strategy. Private sector consultations are conducted regularly, and relationships with civil society groups are being developed. ADB’s country program is closely coordinated with the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands. Partnerships with other funding agencies, especially the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID), the European Union, and the New Zealand Aid Programme, have been crucial, particularly in transport infrastructure and services. ADB also cooperates with nongovernment and private sector organizations to strengthen the effectiveness, quality, and sustainability of its services. ADB participates in the Core Economic Working Group process, in which the government and development partners engage in dialogue and confirm support for economy-wide reforms.
