The Impact of Financial Factors on the Output Gap and Estimates of Potential Output Growth
Felipe, Jesus; Sotocinal, Noli; Bayudan-Dacuycuy, Connie | October 2015
Abstract
The authors examine the impact of financial factors on estimates of the output gap and potential output growth for the G-5 and 10 high- and middle-income Asian economies. Using a state-space model of the output gap with exogenously determined financial factors as regressors, they employ Bayesian methods to estimate the model parameters, and subsequently employ the Kalman filter to obtain estimates of potential
output and potential output growth. They find that financial factors have positive and statistically significant effects on the output gap of the G-5 and high-income economies in Asia, but do not affect those of middleincome Asian economies. By accounting for the effects of financial factors on the output gap, the authors
obtain finance-neutral estimates of potential output growth.

Expanding Water Supply and Sanitation Coverage through Output-Based Aid
Saito, Norio; Dueñas, Maria Christina (Asian Development Bank, 2011-03-15)Output-based aid is a scheme that uses performance-based grants to support delivery of basic services to traditionally marginalized poor households. Such schemes have generally targeted rural villages but, on occasion, large cities. For its first use of OBA, ADB will test the scheme in small towns in Nepal. The Asian Development Bank is set to undertake its first output-based aid (OBA) initiative. ...Output-based aid is a scheme that uses performance-based grants to support delivery of basic services to traditionally marginalized poor households. Electricity Consumption, Output, and Trade in Bhutan
Lean, Hooi Hooi; Smyth, Russell (Asian Development Bank, 2014-12-15)"This paper examines the relationship between electricity consumption, international trade, and economic growth in Bhutan within an augmented production function framework. The main findings are that in the long run a 1% increase in electricity consumption generates 0.03%–0.05% increase in output. A 1% increase in total trade results in 0.5% increase in output. A 1% increase in trade openness results ..."This paper examines the relationship between electricity consumption, international trade, and economic growth in Bhutan within an augmented production function framework.
