B Briefs are based on papers or notes prepared by ADB staff and their resource persons. The series is designed to provide concise, nontechnical accounts of policy issues of topical interest, with a view to facilitating informed debate. The Department of External Relations administers the series. In this issue, ADB Briefs talks about insurance can play an important role in mitigating risks confronted by poor families. However, standard insurance services fail to reach millions of poor and disadvantaged people in both the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and Mongolia. Microinsurance can help these families manage risks and have cash available for emergencies. Insurance products are customized for this market through pricing, types of insurance services, and the way these are delivered.en_US
