Enhancing Gender and Development Capacity in Developing Member Countries: A Review

Abstract
This report is a joint product of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA). It sets out the review undertaken by ADS and DANlOA during 20 Apr! - 23 May 2002 of the regional technical assistance ( R E T A ) 5835— Enhancing G ender and Development Capacity in Developing Member Countries (DMCs). The Project which was funded by DANIDA on a grant basis, was approved by ADB in 1999 Under the Project, gender specialists (GSs) were provided to resident mssions (RMs) In six DMCs of ADB The review examned the extent to which the Project is meeting the overall objectives of (i) bulding the gender and development (GAD) capacity of executing agencies (EAs) in ADB’s DMCs; (10 achieving gender quality improvements in the implementation of AD3-rmanoed activities; (ii) increasing gender responsiveness ol A D B ’s loan activities, and (iv) increasing A D B 's overall G A D activities. T h e Review Team also Investigated the extent to which the Project was contributing to institutional za txxi of gender mainstreaming.
