Asian Development Bank and Vanuatu: Fact Sheet
Asian Development Bank | April 2015
Abstract
The Republic of Vanuatu is made up of more than 80 islands with a population of about 235,000 dispersed across 65 islands. Vanuatu’s economic performance has remained strong in recent years. However, the country’s remoteness, small market size, underdeveloped institutions, and limited absorptive capacity are key constraints. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has been working with the government since 1981, and has provided 11 loans totaling $67.07 million and 62 technical assistance projects totaling $22.45 million. Cumulative disbursements to Vanuatu for lending and grants financed by ordinary capital resources, the Asian Development Fund, and other special funds amounted to $49.0 million.
