dc.description.abstractThis flyer outlines the status of solid waste management in Timor-Leste and recommends key points for action to address challenges facing the country related to solid waste management. Timor-Leste comprises the eastern half of the island of Timor; and Oecusse, an enclave on the northwestern side of the island. The country has a population of 1.12 million. Approximately 20% of the population is located in Timor-Leste's capital city of Dili. The petroleum sector is the mail driver of the economic growth in Timor-Leste, and accounted for 73% of the gross domestic product (GDP) in 2010. Per capita GDP in 2012 was estimated at $5,309.
