Asian Development Bank and Timor-Leste: Fact Sheet
Asian Development Bank | April 2014
Abstract
Updated yearly, this ADB Fact Sheet provides social and economic indicators on Timor-Leste as well as concise information on ADB's operations in the country and contact information.
ADB has partnered with the Government of Timor-Leste to help make long-term improvements in living standards since 1999, 3 years before Timor-Leste gained independence and became a member of ADB. In the initial years, support concentrated on emergency infrastructure. Since 2006, ADB assistance has focused on rehabilitating infrastructure required for connectivity, and building the capacity to ensure that infrastructure is operated and maintained effectively.
As of December 2013, ADB has provided 9 loans and Asian Development Fund grants for $175 million and 41 technical assistance projects for $35.8 million, largely for infrastructure to strengthen connectivity and capacity development. ADB’s active funding portfolio, totaling $168 million, includes two active projects ($90 million), five ongoing grants ($78 million), and six technical assistance projects for $18.5 million.
