Asian Development Bank & Papua New Guinea: Fact Sheet
Asian Development Bank | April 2014
Abstract
Updated yearly, this ADB Fact Sheet provides social and economic indicators on Papua New Guinea as well as concise information on ADB's operations in the country and contact information. Papua New Guinea (PNG) has partnered with ADB since 1971. PNG is the largest public sector borrower in the Pacific region. ADB lending to PNG has increased substantially since 2007, and ADB is now PNG’s second-largest development partner. ADB’s active portfolio totals $1.1 billion, including 22 ongoing loans for 11 projects; 8 grants, including 1 Asian Development Fund grant project; 9 technical assistance projects; and 2 private sector loan and equity operations. ADB support for PNG focuses on economic infrastructure to allow for more efficient and safer movement of people and goods around the country - vital for creating livelihood opportunities and improving access to basic services.
