The Millennium Development Goals and the Importance of Target 10
Asian Development Bank | March 2006
Abstract
In September 2000, the member states of the United Nations unanimously adopted The Millennium Declaration. The summit agreed on an ambitious agenda for reducing poverty and improving lives across the globe through eight goals and 18 targets. These were called the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Achieving Target 10—halving by 2015 the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water and improved sanitation—is instrumental to achieving many of the MDGs.
