Abstract
1. In 2016, Asian Development Bank (ADB) operations total $31.70 billion, of which $17.47 billion was for sovereign and nonsovereign project approvals financed by ordinary capital resources (OCR), Asian Development Fund (ADF) and other special funds, $169 million was for technical assistance financed by special funds, and $14.06 billion by cofinancing partners. The total approvals of OCR and special funds consists of (i) $16.35 billion in loans, (ii) $515 million in guarantees, (iii) $77 million in equity investments, (iv) $527 million in grants, and (v) $169 million in technical assistance (TA).
2. The top five recipients of ADB’s funding including cofinancing are Indonesia ($5.55 billion), India ($4.39 billion), People’s Republic of China ($2.93 billion), Pakistan ($2.51 billion), and Bangladesh ($2.13 billion). Excluding cofinancing, the top five recipients are as follows: India ($3.06 billion), People’s Republic of China ($2.12 billion), Azerbaijan ($1.83 billion), Indonesia ($1.73 billion), and Pakistan ($1.56 billion). Appendix 1 provides a breakdown of financing source approved by country and by region. Appendix 5 provides a glossary of technical terms relating to the ADB operations.
